The latest Commitment of Traders report from the New York arabica market has seen the Non-Commercial Speculative sector increase their net long position by 21.82% within the market over the week of trade leading up to Tuesday 14th July 2026: to register a net long position of 12,454 lots, which is the equivalent of 3,530,653 bags. This net long position has most likely been marginally increased further following the period of mixed but overall firmer trade that has since followed. The Commercial sector held 47,476 Lots or the equivalent of 13,459,236 bags net short position on the day, an increase of 3.83% over the same week of trade.
In the same report from the New York arabica coffee market, the shorter term in nature Managed Money Fund decreased their net-long position by 2.13% over the week of trade leading up to Tuesday 14th July 2026; to register a new long position at 24,967 Lots. The longer term in nature, the Index Fund sector of this market decreased their net-long position by 0.75% within the market, to register a new net-long position of 33,538 Lots on the day.
The latest Commitment of Traders report from the London robusta coffee market has seen the Speculative Managed Money Sector decrease their net long position by 2.54% within the market over the week of trade leading up to Tuesday 14th July 2026: to register a new net long position of 43,071 Lots which is the equivalent of 7,178,500 bags. This net long position has most likely been little changed, following the period of mixed but overall sideways trade that has since followed.
The certified washed arabica coffee stocks held against the New York Exchange continue to register gradual drawdowns over the last number of months. The certified stocks were registered at 332,945 bags on Friday; this marks a decrease of 481,110 bags or 59.10% from the same time last year when the certified washed arabica coffee stocks registered 814,055 bags on 17th July 2025. In comparison, these certified washed arabica stocks have decreased by 120,210 bags or 26.53% since the beginning of 2026.
The washed arabica coffee origins that can deliver to the certified warehouse exchange stocks are Brazil, Burundi, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, Mexico, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. These origins are deliverable to the exchange at varying price premiums or discounts and in view of the prevailing price structure in New York. Brazil semi-washed arabica coffee contributing 3.09%, along with shipments from Honduras contributing 29.96% and Peru contributing 17.79%. This as the Brazil 2026/27 crop gradually begins to flow to the markets, leading one to believe there may be some replenishment to the stock levels in the weeks and months ahead. These daily released figures are received by the speculative sector of the markets, as an indication of arabica coffee availability, in the consumer markets where these exchange certified coffee stocks are held.
The Certified washed arabica coffee stocks held against the New York exchange were seen to decrease by 1,309 bags on Friday, to register these stocks at 332,945 bags, with 73.36% of these certified stocks held in Europe, at a total of 240,921 and the remaining 27.64% being held in the USA at a total 92,024 bags. Of this, a total 10,288 or 3.09% of the coffees registered and stored in consumer country certified warehouses of the exchange, are Brazil washed arabica, and a further 29.96% of these certified coffees, from Honduras at 99,742 bags and 17.79% from Peru at a total 59,232 bags. The pending grading remained unchanged on the day, registering 0 bags pending grading.
The September 2026 to September 2026 contract arbitrage between the London and New York markets widened on Friday, to register this at 144.44 Usc/Lb. This equates to 45.09% price discount for London robusta coffee.
It was an overall firmer day on the commodity markets on Friday, following renewed inflation concerns due to rising energy and fuel costs leading to some degree of expectation that there may be interest rate hikes to come. The Coffee, Cocoa, Corn, Soybean, Sugar, Wheat, Gold, Silver and Palladium markets ended the day on a positive note, while the Platinum market ended the day on a softer note. The day starts with the US Dollar trading at 1.347 Sterling, at 1.144 to the Euro and with the US Dollar buying 5.111 Brazil Real.
The New York and London markets started the day on Friday in muted volume, trading on modest firmer notes respectively. The trend was quickly affirmed in London to see the market gain momentum and trend firmer during the early morning session. The New York market was slower to react and having set a higher level, dropped back into softer territory, setting a new low for the day. The arrival of the America’s at the start of their business day pushed New York lower, the New York market dropped lower to set a new low for the day to rebound and find renewed support trending back to par. The London market gained momentum from the day’s lows, gaining support as the afternoon progressed. The New York market continued the upward momentum before being capped during the afternoon session to limit the day’s gains. The market dropped back to settle on a firmer note, with some of the earlier gains of the day intact. The London market was seen to also settle on a firm note at the close, with more than half of the earlier gains of the day intact.
The London market ended the day on a positive note, with 60.61% of the earlier gains of the day intact, while the New York market ended the day on a likewise positive note with 65.25% of earlier gains of the day on the intact. This firmer close might see the markets set for a steady start to early trade today, albeit that the New York market dropped back from the highs of the day during the session to settle on firmer note at the close, while the London market settled on a firmer note with some of the earlier gains of the day intact, to possibly see the markets set for a steady start to early trade today, against the prices set on Friday, as follows:
