The reports from midyear harvest Colombia, the world’s largest producer of quality washed arabica that has two harvests per year, has started the harvest of their mitaca crop, with positive reports so far as the harvest gets underway and is expected to peak mid this year.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation MIDAGRI in Peru, exports of green coffee for the first two months the calendar year totalled US$ 131.30 million, a 71.90% increase year on year. No official quantity has been published. The positive export value is in line with the then higher value in the New York Futures exchange, these exports from the Peru washed arabica midyear harvest April 2025 to March 2026 coffee crop year, which is reported to have come in at 3.70 million bags. The new April 2026 to March 2027 crop harvest that has begun, may expect to see the first export shipments toward midyear, while forecasts indicate a marginal year on year improvement estimated at around 3.80 million bags. Domestic consumption is reported at a relatively modest 300,000 bags thus releasing most of the new crop coffee to enter the consumer markets.

The Certified washed arabica coffee stocks held against the New York exchange decreased by 6,247 bags on Friday, to register these stocks at 477,045 bags, with 72.97% of these certified stocks held in Europe, at a total of 348,118 and the remaining 27.03% being held in the USA at a total 128,927 bags. Of this, a total 14,645 or 3.07% of the coffees registered and stored in consumer country certified warehouses of the exchange, are Brazil washed arabica, and a further 27.63% of these certified coffees, from Honduras at 131,814 bags and 13.36% from Peru at a total 63,754 bags. The July 2026 to July 2026 contract arbitrage between the London and New York markets narrowed on Friday, to register this at 119.94 Usc/Lb. This equates to 43.65% price discount for London robusta coffee.

It was a mixed but overall firmer day on the commodity markets on Friday, following newly released economic data from the US that indicated employment figures increased more than expected in April, providing some degree of speculative input that interest rates may remain unchanged for a longer period of time. The New York Arabica Coffee, Corn, Soybean, Sugar, Wheat, Gold, Silver and Platinum markets ended the day on a firmer note, while the London Robusta Coffee, Cocoa and Palladium markets ended the day on a softer note. The day starts with the US Dollar trading at 1.358 Sterling, at 1.175 to the Euro and with the US Dollar buying 4.895 Brazil Real.

The London and New York markets started the day on Friday trading to the south of par on a softer note. Both markets found support early and registered a positive track in a firmer direction in the early morning session. The London market hit a ceiling for the early morning session early in the day, to introduce sellers at the highs, the choppy trade in New York continued in positive territory, making gains throughout the early morning session before being capped to limit the day’s gains and set a new high for the session. As the afternoon progressed, the London market continued a modest softer path, dropping back from the earlier highs to trend through par and into negative territory.  The New York market dropped back from the day’s highs late in the session before finding renewed support before the close to settle on a firmer note with less than half of the earlier gains of the day intact. The London market recovered from the earlier lows to settle on a softer note at the close with some of the earlier losses of the day intact.

The London market ended the day on a modest softer note, with 33.33% of the earlier losses of the day intact, while the New York market ended the day on a positive note with 29.80% of the earlier gains of the day intact.  This mixed close for the markets, with the London market settling on a softer note with some of the earlier losses of the day intact, and the New York market settling on a firmer note at the close albeit back from the day’s highs, might see the markets set for a follow through steady start to early trade today, against the prices set on Friday, as follows:
