The latest Commitment of Traders report from the New York arabica market has seen the Non-Commercial Speculative sector increase their net long position by 18.55% within the market over the week of trade leading up to Tuesday 28th April 2026:  to register a new long position of 16,626 lots, which is the equivalent of 4,713,397 bags. This net long position has most likely been decreased following the period of mixed but overall softer trade that has since followed. The Commercial sector held 45,125 Lots or the equivalent of 12,792,738 bags net short position on the day, an increase of 14.83% over the same week of trade.

In the same report from the New York arabica coffee market, the shorter term in Nature Managed Money Fund increased their net-long position by 23.40% over the week of trade leading up to Tuesday 28th April 2026; to register a new long position at 29,410 Lots. The longer term in nature, the Index Fund sector of this market increased their net-long position by 9.89% within the market, to register a new net-long position of 28,741 Lots on the day.

The latest Commitment of Traders report from the London robusta coffee market has seen the Speculative Managed Money Sector increase their net long position by 192.17% within the market over the week of trade leading up to Tuesday 28th April 2026: to register a new net long position of 12,215 Lots which is the equivalent of 2,035,833 bags. This net long position has most likely been decreased, following the period of mixed but overall softer trade that has since followed.

The Vietnam Customs Authority have reported that Vietnam’s coffee exports for the month of April have registered 31.74% higher than the same month in the previous year, at 3,666,667 bags. The cumulative export performance for the first seven months of the current October 2025 to September 2026 coffee year in Vietnam the largest producer and exporter of robusta coffee to consumer markets, is reported to be 3,766,667 bags or 25.42% higher than the same period in the previous year, to cumulative six-month total at 18,583,334 bags.

The General Statistics office of Vietnam have at the same time reported the country’s coffee revenue value for the first four months of 2026, is reported at 7% lower than the same period in the previous year, at a total of approximately 3.69 billion US Dollars.

The United Kingdom celebrate a May Bank Holiday today, which will see the London Robusta coffee market closed for the day, and the New York Arabica coffee futures terminal market trading solo for a shortened day of trade.

The Certified washed Arabica coffee stocks held against the New York exchange increased by 2,951 bags on Friday, to register these stocks at 502,234 bags, with 74.12% of these certified stocks held in Europe, at a total of 372,274 and the remaining 25.88% being held in the USA at a total 129,960 bags. Of this, a total 15,943 or 3.17% of the coffees registered and stored in consumer country certified warehouses of the exchange, are Brazil washed arabica, and a further 26.43% of these certified coffees, from Honduras at 132,747 bags and 13.94% from Peru at a total 70,004 bags. The pending grading stocks decreased by 4,319 bags on the day, registering 14,903 bags pending grading, the majority origin pending grading Honduras, adding up to 50.20% of the total.    

The July 2026 to July 2026 contract arbitrage between the London and New York markets widened on Friday, to register this at 133.81 Usc/Lb. This equates to 46.72% price discount for London robusta coffee.

It was a firmer day the commodity markets on Friday, following news that the US Federal Reserve maintained interest rates, which resulted in a softer US Dollar on the day. The Coffee, Cocoa, Corn, Soybean, Sugar, Wheat, Gold, Silver, Palladium and Platinum markets ended the day on a firmer note. The day starts with the U.S. Dollar trading at 1.357 Sterling, at 1.172 to the Euro and with the US Dollar buying 4.957 Brazil Real.

The New York and London coffee markets opened the day on Friday on a steady footing, trading initially in relatively subdued volume. The London market showed early intent, posting modest gains in the early morning session, though momentum remained tempered by a lack of significant volume. The New York market followed a similar tone. As the afternoon progressed, the markets began to attract support. The afternoon session brought renewed activity, with the New York market showing stronger upward momentum. This was further supported by speculative short covering. The markets set new highs for the day before dropping back to trade towards par and into softer territory, as selling pressure moved the markets lower. The markets continued on a softer path, before finding support near to the days lows to recover and trade back towards par during the late afternoon session. The New York market settled on a modest near to unchanged firmer note at the close, while the London market settled on a likewise modest positive note at the close, near to unchanged on the day.

The London market ended the day on a modest near to unchanged positive note, with 6.67% of the earlier gains of the day intact, while the New York market ended the day on a likewise modest near to unchanged positive note with 16.50% of the earlier gains of the day intact.  This firmer close for the markets with both the New York and London markets tracking firmer throughout the session, albeit that the markets fell back from the highs late in the day, will likely see the New York market trading solo for the day, set for a follow through hesitant start to early trade today, against the prices set on Friday, as follows:
