The latest Commitment of Traders data indicates a further drawdown in speculative sentiment towards the New York arabica market, with the non-commercial sector moving from a net long position to a net short position of 1,716 lots, equivalent to 486,478 bags. Managed Money also reduced its net long position by 29.19% over the week to 15,654 lots, highlighting a continued reduction in shorter-term speculative exposure amid the recent softer market conditions. In contrast, the longer-term Index Fund sector remained comparatively stable, reducing its net long position by just 1.01% to 35,137 lots. Overall, the Commitment of Traders data has now become distinctly less bullish in the short term, with speculative participants moving into net short territory, although the resilience of longer-term Index Fund positioning suggests that this shift has yet to extend across the broader investment community. The reduction in the Commercial sector’s net short position by 8.41% to 34,762 lots also provides an additional indication of changing market positioning, although commercial positions should be viewed primarily in the context of their underlying physical-market exposure and hedging requirements.
