Coffee Market Report
September 15, 2026
The Coffee Exporters Association in Brazil, Cecafé have reported preliminary data, that for the month of September thus far, green coffee exports have registered 1.80 million bags, with the daily average reported at 225,000 bags or 51.50% higher year on year. Brazil has cumulatively registered exports of green coffee for the first two months of the 2026/27 coffee year, to be 21.20% higher, overall, when compared to the same time in the previous year, at a total of 6.50 million bags. This number is made up of 4.69 million bags of arabica coffee up 9.79% from the previous coffee year and 1.80 million bags of Conilon robusta coffee, an increase year on year of 66.46% versus the previous year.
The National Coffee Association (NCA) based in the USA have released their latest Coffee Data Trends Report in which, they report that information extrapolated from the relatively small sample of respondents, an average 66% of Americans surveyed have indicated that they had a cup of coffee in the past day, this figure unchanged from their spring 2026 report. The report further illustrates a decrease in out-of-home consumer behaviour, with this an indication of the tighter inflationary economic landscape, coffee consumption from out-of-home venues decreasing by 1% over the last 5 years, to report that 28% of coffee drinkers consumed at least one cup of coffee from an out of home venue in the last day. While at home consumption continues to be the most preferred venue for coffee consumption with the USA, the report states that 80% of all coffee prepared is consumed at home, marginally lower by 3% over the last 5 years.
The Certified washed arabica coffee stocks held against the New York exchange remained unchanged yesterday, to register these stocks at 217,932 bags, with 73.13% of these certified stocks held in Europe, at a total of 159,364 and the remaining 26.87% being held in the USA at a total 58,568 bags. Of this, a total 8,670 or 3.98% of the coffees registered and stored in consumer country certified warehouses of the exchange, are Brazil washed arabica, and a further 25.51% of these certified coffees, from Honduras at 55,584 bags and 22.34% from Peru at a total 48,696 bags. The pending grading remained unchanged on the day, registering 64,955 bags pending grading.
The November 2026 to December 2026 contract arbitrage between the London and New York markets widened yesterday, to register this at 130.15 Usc/Lb. This equates to a 44.80% price discount for London robusta coffee.
It was a mixed day on the commodity markets yesterday, with the leading in influence Oil markets firmer on the day following stronger than expected inflation data, while Central Banks around the globe including Japan are expected to increase interest rates in the coming weeks. The Coffee, Cocoa, Corn and Soybean markets ended the day on a firmer note, the Sugar market remained unchanged on the day, while the Wheat, Gold, Silver, Palladium and Platinum markets ended the day on a softer note. The day starts with the US Dollar trading at 1.348 Sterling, at 1.154 to the Euro and with the US Dollar buying 5.144 Brazil Real.
The London and New York markets started the day yesterday in muted volume, trading on modest softer notes respectively. The trend was quickly reversed in London to see the market gain momentum and trend firmer during the early morning session. The New York market was slower to react and having set a higher level, traded either side of par in a comparatively quiet volume morning. Both the New York and London markets were seen to build support as the day progressed. The arrival of the America’s at the start of their business day pushed New York higher, triggering buy stops along the way to accentuate the gains for the day, this assisted to trigger speculative short covering which saw the New York market gain ground quickly throughout the afternoon session, with the London market following suit to make gains throughout the afternoon session. The New York market continued the upward momentum before being capped during the afternoon session to limit the day’s gains. The market dropped back to settle on a firmer note, with some of the earlier gains of the day intact. The London market was seen to also settle on a firm note at the close, with less than half of the earlier gains of the day intact.
The London market ended the day on a positive note, with 30.30% of the earlier gains of the day intact, while the New York market ended the day on a positive note with 68.05% of earlier gains of the day intact. This firmer close might see the markets set for a steady start to early trade today, albeit that the markets dropped back from the highs of the day during the session to settle on firmer notes at the close and one might think that the markets are due for a follow through hesitant steady start to early trade today, against the prices set yesterday, as follows:
