September 7, 2026

This net long position has most likely been decreased further following the period of mixed but overall softer trade that has since followed. The Commercial sector held 45,046 Lots or the equivalent of 12,770,341 bags net short position on the day, a decrease of 14.39% over the same week of trade.

In the same report from the New York arabica coffee market, the shorter term in nature Managed Money Fund decreased their net-long position by 16.27% over the week of trade leading up to Tuesday 1st September 2026; to register a new long position at 22,350 Lots. The longer term in nature, the Index Fund sector of this market increased their net-long position by 1.86% within the market, to register a new net-long position of 35,654 Lots on the day.

The latest Commitment of Traders data indicates a significant reduction in speculative support for the New York arabica market, with the Non-Commercial sector more than halving its net long position to 7,145 lots, while Managed Money reduced its net long by 16.27% to 22,350 lots. This suggests that speculative participants have continued to reduce exposure amid the recent softer market conditions. However, the longer-term Index Fund sector increased its net long position by 1.86% to 35,654 lots, providing some underlying support. Overall, positioning has become considerably less bullish in the short term, although the continued strength of longer-term investment positions suggests that this shift in sentiment should not yet be viewed as a change in the broader market outlook.
